That Chicago Touch...

IT’s been called relaxed, intimate, friendly, natural, subtle - but the main thing about the “Chicago school” of TV, now widely copied in higher-priced, higher-pressured areas, is this: The viewer doesn't always know what's going to happen next and next and next. The “revolution” stems largely from: 1. Kukla, Fran and Ollie’s Joe Lockwood, prop man; Lew Gomavitz, director; Beulah Zachary, producer; Burr Tillstrom and Fran Allison. 2. Beverly Younger, Chet Roble, Studs Terkel and Win Strache of the ad-lib drama Stud's Place. 3. Writer Charlie Andrews, cameraman Bob Steidle, director Bill Hobin, choreographer Edith Barstow, producer Ted Mills, of Garroway at Large. 4. Walt Durbahn of Walt’s Workshop. 5. Clint Youle, the casual weatherman.  6. Cliff Norton, Garroway’s funny man. 7. Dave Garroway. 8. Jules Herbuveaux, a director of network TV operations in Chicago.
